Between my two community tanks, one being a 1000lt and the other a standard 3ft, I now have three species actively laying eggs. My red and green severum were the first and have laid around 10 times already. My bronze Cory cats have only laid once of which I was able to save a few and now have around 11 baby cories around 1.5cm. And the latest is my angels that I have only had for about 2 months.

Am I just lucky or is this a common occurrence?

@HennieRoux , yip. I but live BBS at my LPS. The first batch I only used fine powder but then read up and moved to the BBS.
Its weird though, they get to free swimming and live to around four weeks then start dropping off day by day.
I currently only have one survivor from my previous batch that is just under 1 cm. The most recent batch have now almost all died.

The only guys I managed to keep going were the Cories.

Not that I am anything near a breeding expert, but have you been feeding the fry regularly enough? Once in the morning and once in the evening is not nearly enough for small fry.

Exactly my next question.... 3 times dailly, and by 2-3 weeks they should be taking chopped up blood worm. Micro worms will also assist during the day when you are not home, as they live up to 24 ours in water.

That is obviously the issue. I am only able to feed morning and evening.

If you look at it this way: Your adult fish are that well conditioned that they feel like spawning. It shows you are taking really good care of them. Raising fry isn't financially worth the while for someone who has another job/income, unless we're talking very valuable and expensive fish. Either you do it for the love of it, or leave the eggs and fry for nature to take its course. To sort of limp to halfway and fail is almost worse than just letting the brood go to waste. It is a bit like not running vs pulling out with blisters and a shattered ego after 50 km of the Comrades. Well, some guys will tell me I have no idea what I'm talking about . But all that said, it is still worth trying for the satisfaction of having achieved success at least once. If breeding becomes your hobby, as opposed to general fishkeeping, you'd better find a way to work from home :).

@dorff HAHA thanks for that, it will never be for financial gain as I just dont have the time to raise fry. I will keep trying my luck though.

The severums have become rather pricey these days so if I could keep those fry alive it would be cool.

    Thanks for the advice guys
