Threadfin rainbows.

I cant find any website that says they are jumpers or that they must be kept i an aquarium woth a lid? Or i just missed it somewhere? Want to get them for my cube

 

I checked for you in my atlas. doesn't mention anything. They only mention that Boesemani rainbows jump. bit in this article it does mention to have a tight lid as they are good jumpers. Threadfin Rainbowfish, Iriatherina werneri, Featherfin Rainbowfish hope this helps.

 

My threadies have never shown any sign of jumping - but my Boesemani's sure do (for some weird reason, sometimes in the middle of the night?)

It's a tricky one - most fish will jump if they have a good reason. But I must add that Betta's are known for jumping, yet I have had one in an opentop tank for well over a year without any problems...

 

what causes a fish to jump if i may ask?

They jump if they get spooked, and in bad cases, if water quality is poor. They'll also jump to catch insects flying over - particularly in the case of bettas.

 

My neons jumped into my guppy breeding net. Probably thought the guppies were getting tastier food :tongue:

 

i guess if they settle in theyre less prone to do it?
