    Hi my fellow fishkeepers.

YEAH I found the TRUE SAE today!!!!

I am thinking about getting myself 6 x SAE for my planted Tiger barb tank.

Are they really worth getting? I dont have to much algae in my tank so I will probably feed them algae wafers or baby marrows.

Can anyone that keep them, tell me if they are worth their ALGAE eating name?

And are they a nice edition in a planted tank.

I already have 4 zebra and 4 yoyo loaches in my tank with 8 albino corys will al of them thrive together?

I saw about 30 of them at one of the lfs near me, going for R26 each.

They are between 5 - 6 cm each.

    Please advise.

    Thanks.

I will tell you that they do get fairly large, Loolilocks got in a really big one once, and I think at a stage will also graze on your plants, but on this I stand corrected.

I have four of them in a five hundred litre tank, they are with clown loaches and barbs, so should be fine with them....

As for algea, they are always eating and nibbling along plants and tank walls, but also happily eat flakes and brine shrimp, as well as sinking pellets and algea discs. My tank does not have much algea, so they seem to be contributing to algea reducion. They do not seem to be too fond of plants, because I do not have any soft leaved plants in with them.

Lastly, mine are around ten centimetres, so you do need good space if you are keeping six, but if I remember correctly you had six hundred litres, so that should be fine.

    I had some of these.
Although they were constantly nibbling on algae, they never seemed to make an impact on it in my tank.

If you do get them, keep your canopy/tank closed. These guys are serious jumpers!

It was just a caution Ryno. I've lost one during a tank rescape when they were in temporary accomodation and the 4 I moved this morning kept jumping very close to the top of the container (10-15cm deep) I had them in. Just be careful...

@Hawk, I decided against this I rather get another 2 BN Ancistrus plecos later on.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

There was a cool link on APSA to a tank with hundreds of ottos. They school brilliantly and look amazing. Go take a look. Maybe you get a monster school of them.
