I have some ADA Aquasoil left from my 4ft re-scape and was thinking of setting up a small nano in my office. So I need some advice on what equipment will work best.

Maybe a standard 1ft tank without a lid.
Clip on light. (Must I get daylight globe or will cool white work?)
    100w heater
    Sponge filter (Air driven)
    ADA Aquasoil
    Some spider wood and moss

All I would do is substitute the 100W heater for something smaller.... A 25W will be more than enough.
I love shrimp nano tanks! I'd have one at the office of we we allowed to

Thanks @BadgerBadger - I haven't seen smaller than 100w at the LFS I normally buy from, but will look around for one...

I'm sure it would be fine to start, but most 100W heaters are a bit bulky.... Too much so for a nano. I'm running a small 25W for my 1ft nano and it works plenty well..... 24 deg C and it's hardly ever on. Problem with a nano is space is really at a premium! But so beautiful if done right.

Would you rather go for a HOB filter then?

I prefer the hob for its clean look, but make sure you cover the intake!! Otherwise shrimp stew.
You get a small Boyu HOB with a sponge covering the intake, but it should be easy to recreate.
Otherwise a sponge filter will work great too!

If space is an issue...you can always go for inline heaters, but you'll need to have a canister filter then

Personally...I'd go for a sponge filter. Shrimps love to graze on them

100w is to big yes, get a 25w or at most 50w heater
    Shrimp prefer cooler water
I would suggest you go with a hang on filter, just remember to cover the inlet with sponge otherwise you will loose all your babies.
AS works great and then you can keep more exotic shrimp like crystal reds or blacks

@morris wow that is one amazing looking nano. Can you give me some details on what lighting, plants and equipment you are using in it?

+1 I would swap for smaller heater as well and if you have smaller than 30L consider one of these filters. Eheim aquacorner 60, I have one and it is brilliant for shrimp. [IMG]

What is a good lighting option for a nano with some ground cover?

Have a look/google at the ADA Mini M with the matching light bar - really beautiful set-up, they are available in SA

Hi, don't know if you are still in the market for a nano, I have one that I have upgraded to a slightly bigger tank and if you are still looking for a nano let me know as I am going to sell the old one. I have a link of it and will pm you the details if you want. http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?23573-New-Shrimp-setup
