After starting to work at one of my local pet shops and dealing with all kinds of species, I've been wondering about trying discuss out as it seems to be not as hard as I thought it would be, I've currently got a 4ft with kribs, barbs and various catfish and a sterba cory/bn plec breeding setup, I'm only 16 so gonna take a lot of saving but I think is worth it in the end.
    Any discus keepers agree??

Hehe another one bites the dust - I LOVE discus. One warning, you will probably end up as a fanatic - spend some time before you buy figuring out what kind of a fanatic you'll turn into - wild types? Classic strains? The biggest, brightest, newest strains from Germany?

Definitely worth it!! Just educate yourself and once you are mentally prepared for the amount of PT involved in water changes (or look at my system) then go for it. Just read up on the major rules of Discus keeping are repeated in most areas of discus keeping. Namely:
    Right size aquarium
Right number 6 or 7 IIRC.
    Right water conditions
    Right temperature
    Right food.
    Right number of water changes.
Putting the effort and expense into getting that right and you will have happy healthy discus. They are not cheap to keep!! Food, heating, filtration all need to be top notch.

On the upside a Sterbia breeding setup would be similar to optimal discus conditions, you could continue doing that in same tank as the discus. My 14 Sterbia compliment the Discus quite well. As they hoover up excess feed but don't get aggressive with the discus, who they let finish eating before they move in to clean up.

I have never been happier since keeping Discus - it is a demanding thing I agree - but it is easy if you stick to the general guidelines !!
