does anyone here use those stick on thermometres.do they work at all,my oscars just broke another one.
Is use a outside thermometer. It is very accurate to a point of a degree e.g. 24.9 . It sits on the outside with a probe on the inside of the tank. I used to use those stick on thermometers but the broke to easily. Regards Peter
I bought a stick on the other day... stuck it onto the tank, and I'm still waiting for it to give me a temperature reading
if we talking about the flat strips that stick flush to the outside of the tank i got one it it doesnt do a bad job, its usually accurate to with in a degree or so. if i check my heater and then the thermometer. iv often wondered which thermometre is best
I use a floating thermometer that's also a hydrometer it works well ! I also have those stick on strips they are not accurate as they are influenced by outside temperature . get a name brand and you should be fine . cheers
I find the glass tube thermometers break easily. I have now bought the Resun plastic thermometers. They oval shaped and easy to read and clean. No need to strain your eyes. My display tank has a Marltons digital thermometer which gives you the temp inside and outside the tank. I don't see how the sticky strips can ever be accurate.
I also use to use the stick on strip thermo which wasn't that accurate then i used the glass tube thermo and my Bala's kept breaking them so now I'm using the external electronic thermometer with the probe, it gives me the internal and external temps and it has always been accurate. I've never been happier!
From my experience... Glass thermometer: PROS: fairly accurate, cheap, not influenced by outside factors CONS: break easily, suction cup (if applicable) hardens over time Stick on strip thermometer: PROS: can be accurate (depending on brand), no risk to fish or from fish CONS: reads outside temperature, can cost slightly more, when touched they become inaccurate Digital thermometer: PROS: very accurate, fish resistant, some can be placed in or out the tank CONS: expensive, finding batteries can be hard, batteries are expensive
I bought I Boyu submersible thermometer... piece of absolute CRud. The batteries lasted 4 weeks a time... and eventually the entire thing stopped working. They lasted me about 5 months MAX.
I guess it must be the brand then... I've only worked with the Jewul digital thermometer, and it was all good.
You guys are 100% correct it all depends on the make, I wish I could tell you what make mine is but the name has rubbed off so now its a no name brand hee! hee! An identity crisis of note!
ja that stupid glass one i will have to stick to it seems the lesser of the evils, will just have to take it out at feeding time cause thats when it gets broken
Actually, if you manage to find a good quality stick on strip thermomters - such as the ones done by Hagen - it'll be quite safe from your bigger fish. Plus they work for years, which is exceptional considering how long the cheaper bands last.
Gotta love Hagen. I saw a digi thermometer at my LFS for R70. I think it was a Marltons? Would really like to get.
Were can I pick up a digital thermometer locally I have been to many local pet shops and never seen one.
depends where you are situated? I know the Pet a Pond in lynnwood has a good price on theirs. Bought the same make from PetCity Montana and payd like R20 or so more for it
Mmmm must have missed them when I was there last, thanks will go check them out when I make a stop there again.
