The use of dither fish

hey all
been doing quite a bit of research on the web and alot of guys seem to be using dither fish ie a fast moving active fish in there central american cichlid tanks. This is ment to stop cichlid on cichlid aggression and put it all on the dither fish thus helping form pair bonding.
Think it sounds like a sound idea just worried about a ethical issue of the dithers getting ripped to pieces.
the guys seem to use tinfoil barbs and bala sharks.

Rather look at using a top swimming,fast fish - Giant Danios have always worked well for me... Fullgrown ones reach 8 - 10 cm and add a bit of movement as well....
