    Whenever they get a gap to leave the tank they take it so when I open the lid and my sliders I have to watch them carefully because they go for "walks" outside the tank on a regular basis.

    Lost two big apple snails like that :( this was just after they laid eggs .

    You would be surprised, I visited my girlfriend during the December holidays and found one in my kitchen sitting against a cupboard after 4 days none the worse for wear. I think as soon as they run out of moisture they close up keeping what is left inside.
