You need a hard wood to braai on. A soft wood goes from flames to ash. A hard wood makes a nice bed of glowing coals.
I can get some imported SA wood. Kameeldoring or Sekelbos. But it’s very expensive and too nice to burn.
The olive is nice and hard. Cheaper. And gives the meat a nice flavour

This was for 4 of us. No left overs!

we were going to have a braai tonight. But it is very windy. So decided to give it a miss. Will do tomorrow and Sunday instead.

What I absolutely cannot wait for on the weekends is a steak on the braai . I get sirloin place in a dish poke it with a fork . I then take spices rub it all in and then squeeze lemon over it and continue rubbing it in ...... the best !!!!!!

I had a braai when I got home from work. 6 chicken sosaties and some wors. Nothing like sitting by the fire with a glass of wine. We had a beautiful evening to go with it.

Yes yesterday was awesome weather here, right? We had a braai too (chops and wors) and, judging from the smoke, so did the entire neighborhood

Saturday with friends, family & my kids with friends we had grilled mushrooms, rump, espatada, pork chops, pork belly, boerewors, cheese wors & grillers. Had to fill the grid 2 times. Sunday with other family it was sticky chicken wings, thin cheese wors, pork chops and sosaties. Grilled mushrooms when you light the fire put on the stainless braaipan. Enough oil and 2 to 3 packets mushrooms cut in half. Grill and add heaps of cyanne pepper, paprika, soy sauce, a dash of apple cider vinegar & worchester sause. You can add some thin cheese sausages bite size. turn with a egg spatula. When done give each his own toothpick to eat.

If some friends come round, I also like to throw some logs onto the braai after dinner.
Good company. A few drinks. Nice flames. Makes for a fantastic evening.
