    Hi everyone,

Which tetras make the best tank mates for Discus?
My tank sits at 29C and I think that's too high for most tetras.

I know Cardinals & Rummynoses are good options. Any others that will do well at this high temperature?

    Thanks for your help!

Disclaimer - I have never had Discus

With that said - a discus in all likelihood will eat anything that it can fit in its mouth, much like angle fish (these I have kept).
With the angles, in the past I could have small fish in the tank since the angles and some 20 odd neons all joined at the same time.

    Hi Gordon

I kept Kerri Tetras initially, they look like small emporer tetras... but as you will read, they do not do well at the high temps and only lasted about two years. Rummy Nose as you mentioned, are more adapted to higher temps, but they cost a fair bit more. I currently have a school of glow lights with my discus, they are relatively plain, but school very nicely. Over a year in, I have not lost any, not eaten or perishing to the heat.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

@richardnuss - I've seen Kerris around. I currently have Emperors, but they don't seem to like the heat and aren't doing too well. Glowlights sound like a good idea, but I'm liking the sound of Cardinals & Lemon Tetras now (thanks @Reedfish). They sound like they could compliment each other quite well.

@Gordon, what discus strains do you have? I think cardinals look awesome with the turqs, cobalts and royals, while the lemons would probably look very cool with pigeon bloods and checkerboards... Do not forget to post some pics of your tank!

I'm still pretty new to the discus game. I got them from a local breeder called Gavin. They are still quite small (about 10cm) checkerboards. I've got 5 at the moment and do plan to get 2 or 3 more of some other strains when he has them available.

Will definitely post some pics soon :)
