Am i correct in saying that based on a high level view of the planet that there is no barbs sp. in the amazon and no tetra's in asia??? Just something I am wondering about. If there was a barb that for instance live's naturally with something like Neon tetra's or Rummy Nose's or Angels for that matter. Do you know of some??

Yeah you can use some Cherry barbs they are very docile, sub-lime has got 6 tiger barbs with his other community fishes no issues at all.

I also know someone that kept around 25 red nose rummies and around 40 tiger barbs also no issues.

    barb (fish) -- Encyclopedia Britannica
Barbel (fish) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"barb, also called Barbel,(genus Barbus), any of numerous freshwater fishes belonging to a genus in the carp family, Cyprinidae. The barbs are native to Europe, Africa, and Asia. The members of this genus typically have one or more pairs of barbels (slender, fleshy protuberances) near the mouth and often have large, shining scales. The species vary widely in size; certain barbs are only about 2.5–5 cm (1–2 inches) long, while the mahseer of India may be 2 m (6.5 feet) long. Several species are listed as endangered in the Red Data Book."

Tetra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A tetra is one of several species of small freshwater fish from Africa, Central America and South America belonging to the biological family Characidae and to its former subfamilies Alestidae (the "African tetras") and Lebiasinidae. The Characidae are distinguished from other fish by the presence of a small adipose fin between the dorsal and caudal fins. Many of these, such as the neon tetra (Paracheirodon innesi), are brightly colored and easy to keep in captivity. Consequently, they are extremely popular for home aquaria.
