If the plastic container is cracked im afraid it a gonner. There is presure in the filter and sealing that would be a short term solution Maybe it just the seal that is unevenly placed at the joint. Take it apart and make sure the rubber seal in perfectly in place.

If there is no visible damage just remove all the O-rings and make sure you put them back properly. Should solve your problem.

When you take the orings out, rub them with a little vaseline. My main canister o-ring that seals the lid to the body (the main ring) gives me hassles everytime I do a filter clean. I clean the filter, put the ring back, fill the tank, and then flood my cabinet cause the ring hasn't sealed. Open the filter again, flood the cabinet again cause I forgot to turn the tap off, smeer vaseline on the ring, close, and viola... works like a charm!

    Hi there.

If any of the above tips do not work, tetra has a policy whereby they replace either the parts or the whole thing, if you need an email address you can pm me for the details of the tetra brand manager. Hope everything works out soon!

Silicone paste, commonly used by underwater photographers, might be a safer bet and do a better job. I've been using it on my FX5 canister O-rings with good results..

I use vaseline as a lubricant on pipe ends that I need to remove from time to time in my koi pond sump and that works great, but I feel silicone paste has perhaps better sealing qualities than vaseline.

dont waste time trying to seal and come up with solutions, if its only 6 months old take it back those filters have a 3 year warranty well mine does :), you dont wanna try a use a substance (silicone or such) and then it doesnt work, and you end up losing your warranty, try the vaseline if it doesnt work just return the unit.

its a excellent filter, i dont even know when mine is working, no noise, no vibration even only way to check is to see water movement.

Where does it leak? I have been using 2 for the last year and no leaks. Open them twice to change some of the media and no leaks to date. They have a 3 year warranty so take it back if you can. Usually the o-rings leaks.
