Yeah, I tried it once with very little success.

Personally the best thing for algae when it gets out of hand:

    1) 3 day blackout
    2) research what causes the type of algae you have
    3) rectify what you have in short supply.

Do you have a 10000 k lamp over your tank?

In my opinion it would be the root cause of your algal problems if you did.

Tetra algae min is not made for blue green algae and will not resolve your problem.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Blue lamps are 20000 k. The spectrum of 10000 k and 20000 k lamps is such that it not correct for plant growth but absolutely ideal for blue green and brush algae growth.....

While on topic, would you recomend rather putting in 6500k bulbs even if they are CFLs?

I have 2x CFL 6500k and 2x 10000k(1 white, 1 blue) tubes and my algea is growing but i want to get rid of it. Currently only running 2 of the 4 bulbs. Which two should i run?

Definitely not the 10000 k lamps, it is as simple as that.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    Freaksa...

I'm assuming you have 4 x CFL fittings if you have 4 globes? I would run 3 x 6,500k CFL's and use the spare fitting for the 10,000k fitting ONLY FOR WHEN YOU ARE VIEWING THE TANK. I.e the 2 hours before lights out.

If you don't mind the look of the 6,500K tank... then stick to the 6,500k globes completely and throw out the 10,000k stuff. As the professor has said in this thread, and another thread I was chatting to him about, the 10,000k globe doesn't promote photosynthesis because it's not the correct spectrum. Thus it is a globe purely for viewing pleasure... BUT then you have the problem in that Algae LOVE this globe, and will THRIVE under it!

    Cool cool.

@ zoom, i have 2 x long tubes and 2 x CFLS. For now i will just run the CFL's and see if i can get rid of the algea.. I did a good cleaning of my tank the other day cut away all leaves will algea on them and gave all my plants a good trim so hopefully it will go away soon..

    Thanks for the input :)

    Im using an everlight 3u

    18w Cool Daylight 6400k B22
    1040Lm 54lm/W

Have two of those running now because im not using my long tubes anymore (those are 2x20 watt, so i might take those tubes out and put in another CFL.

The colour these globes give off is pure white so i dont need the other ones on at all.
