Test Kits?

What test kits do you guys use my Nitrate/Ammonia kit? Mine is almost finished and I cant find refills for it, for my PH levels I have been using API which seems to do the job see they sell Nitrate/Ammonia kits too for around R130. Mine works with a little test tube you fill with water add 3 drops water changes color and you compare it against a chart. Any other suggestions?

 

Buy the api masters kit ,it has all the tests : ph , no2 ,no3 ,high ph and ammonia .it costs around 500 bucks ....its a good kit to get .

I agree with Brad's. I've had mine for about 16 months now. I've had to replenish the NO3 test.
Only other test you might need is a gH if you going heavily planted route.

 

Only question relating to the API kit which I too have been trying to get hold of is: Dont those chems lapse or expire after a period, how long does it stay viable and how do i know when i buy a kit that its still "fresh"?

I know some shops have the master kit, but its been on the shelf for ages because its expensive people give it a miss and so the shelf doesn't get replaced and replenished. When you take down the stock you're liable to get an asthma attack

I "replenished" by buying a new nitrate test kit.

 

The API kits have date stamps on the bottles. My present bottle of pH tester has a stamp 28C0407 which means it was placed into the bottle in April 2007. Since the various chemicals have a stated shelf life of 3 or 4 years depending on the particular chemical, mine is nearing the end of its useful life at a bit over 3 years.
