Okay, so my girlfriend and I bought a house which we will hopefully be moving into 28 Feb.

Now firstly I'll tell you it's quite a joke to find a house, when at the back of your mind you have to keep wondering "where will the tanks go". Many places we absolutely loved, went out the window due to lack of tank space.

So long story short we eventually found one that fits.

Initially I wanted to move the tanks myself, thinking that it would be too much of a problem to worry about that as well with everything else going on, but now I've decided to rather drain them the night before, and run temporary tanks, so that the moving company can move the tanks.

Basically I've got these two fairly big blue containers on wheels, which I want to run overnight.

Now the Oscar tank should be fine, as I should be able to just hook the canister filter straight up to it, and let it continue as normal, with a little bit less space.

However the Malawi tank's filtration is built into the canopy of the tank, so I can't exactly just remove it.

Now the first real question is.

    1. Would the fish be alright if I left them "as is" over night? Overnight being about 24hours.

    2. If not, would a simple air stone do the job? Or should I get oxygen tablets?

I would put in an air stone it would be fine for 24hours. That is what I did and I had no problems.

I think you should buy yourself an internal filter and a large sponge filter. Use them in the tank until you want to move. Then move them into the container when you move the malawis. Don't buy hecticly expensive ones. Cheap ones will do the trick. Plus, then you have spares, if anything should happen.

Just be sure to run them both in the tank for a week or 2 before you move.

Nah, if need be I'll just be borrowing a filter.

Having bought a house I don't have money to spend on extras right now.

A nice big sponge filter wont cost you more than R200...

Rather R200 than R1000 bucks worth of dead fish.

Sponge filter requires an air pump as well though?

    Sorry I've never used them.

Yeah.. but if you're going to just run an air stone, where is the air coming from?

Oh... Congrats on the purchase of the house Sauron.

In today's society, the purchase of a house is something to really brag about!

Yeah, we are pretty damn excited, yet stressed out of our brackets all at the same time.

Will pop in by Panorama this weekend and see what I can get. Submersible might just work, as I could never use a hand-on-back with the tank as it is.

    Moenie vra nie.

I wasn't exactly using my brain.

My mind linked the air pump to the other tank, not even thinking that I can simply move it to this one, and keep the canister on that one.

    :p

Congrats on the house, hope you have many happy years there and start building custom wall tanks!

When we moved into our house I used the exact same storage bins, I had the fish in there for about a week while I was setting up the tank in the new place, I used the submersable powerhead filter pump with an airstone, worked fine, besides from the smaller swimming space they were fine, I did lose one of the baby cichlids as he had no hiding space and got bullied, other than that all the fish were fine. It's a big job and moving the tank was by far the most stressfull item to move, everything else my mates and I moved ourselves, for the tank I hired help!!
