Tb or mycrobacterium in zebra danios

Hi,

I have recently set up a planted tank with 9 zebras and 9 neon tetras. All the fish were fine, tank was cycled but there are two danios I noticed with kind of hunched backs and bloated bellies. They were in the bunch bought from the lfs. They are much smaller than the rest of the other danios and eat and excrete as do the others but looks a bit red arnd the anal fin to me.

I have read about tb in danios. What do you think this is?

I also have a "bloated belly". My doctor and wife say I am overweight. Maybe that is their problem too? :laugh:

 

Hey @Uda... Think I can shed some light on this... Zebra Danios is an extremely wide spread fish in the hobby(and the 1st fish to go to space btw) and is known as one of,if not the easiest egg laying fish to spawn. Years of home spawnings between "family" has produced some mutations... Which your two females seem to be examples of...

It's something that in the trade is known as the "Balloon" Gene ... Nothing to worry about really - just a strong recessive gene coming forward in the fish's DNA due to inbreeding... Many other species of fish exhibit this as a trait... Rams,Mollies and even Kissing Gouramis....
