We don't have a TASA WhatsApp group..

We believe in keeping information shared on the Forum for the benefit of present and future members

I agree with @MariaS that this should all be contained within the forums, otherwise we won't see content coming onto the forum in lieu of faster Whatsapp answers (which would annoy me with all the disorganised and constant beeping, but anyway)...

However, I'd like to ask the mods if it were possible to open up a new subforum section? In this section, are threads for emergencies, for each general geographical area. In this way members could pop in and state a problem that needs both quick resolution and possibly direct assistance (e.g.: tank cracked, filter stopped, etc.) such that there needn't be discussion around the problem, just a way to let everyone know you're in a pickle. Private messages can facilitate the rest of the exchanges, including contact details and hopefully a resolution.

It's a broad, unrefined idea. But maybe worth discussing? This keeps everything on the forum, but provides a quick(ish) solution like Whatsapp groups, and may help foster localised community within the hobby.

    Just a thought.

    Regards,

I think that would be a great idea, as long as people add their location to their profiles.

Its not just the content coming onto the forum, its the storage of years of knowledge and advice not only for us but for future hobbyists.
With WhatsApp.. facebook etc.. its all great today but its life span is very short and if or when you want to look up the info.. its probably gone
I would like to think that one day, our kids, grand kids can come to TASA and learn from our successes and mistakes..

As for your idea... im trying to digest how many forums it would actually boil down to and if i am understanding correctly.. sounds like a lot..

    Emergencies
4 or 5 subforums for different regions
And then, how many topics per region?
Sounds a hell of a lot?

If anyone needing urgent help, starts their thread and uses " Urgent help needed"- Tank cracked
And as@Pezulu said, everyone ensures their location is on their profile, would this not have the same response?

Im Just thinking of a simple way ....

I'd say emergencies are for WA groups. Get contact of local members or friends and set that up

I'm part of a group, but it's more general fish chat and whatever. Nothing that can't be found already

Yes certainly whatsapp group is far better - I for example, don't log on here sometimes for 3 or 5 days - by then the emergency has died :)
