    HI guys

I have been spending a whole lot of time on the net and I see plenty of tanks with driftwood that does not have the tannins stain how do they do that?

And what effect does the Tannis have on the fish?

they buy soaked drift wood or they soak it themselves . the latter takes some time .
there is a thread here about tannins should search the forum before google .

it has no impact on the fish (it does if your fish need hard water , I take it yours don't ? ) , to most tropical fish especially those originating from soft water , the tannins are highly beneficial as they make the water softer .
it provides a similar if not the same benefit of using peat in your filters.

    cheers bud

Soak it, boil it and soak it some more. Nothing gets rid of tannins besides time.

Tannins is good for fish... bad for viewing.

To remove Tannins... but Purigen from LPS and put it into your filter.

Or carbon. Ive been told that purigen doesn't remove tannins? A bit of a debate on the marine forums :)

Do you use purigen on your tanks zoom? I'm debating using some for my planted tank.

Yep. I put it in for 2 weeks. Take it out for 2 weeks. Put it in for 2 weeks etc etc

Been using about 100grams of the stuff for 3 months now. Haven't needed to recharge it yet. (When it is taken out... keep it wet... when it dries, it disintigrates, or breaks apart). Clears up my tannins beautifully.

That's because Marine guys don't know what they doing... (LOL)
