I'm looking for good quality tanks in Cape Town.
Wanted to build it ourselves, but glass seems to cost more than the tank itself. Have a feeling a certain glass company is ripping us off big time though.

Originally we wanted to build a 1000mm L x 350mm W x 460mm H tank as it'll be on the kitchen counter, but it seems as though buying a tank would just work out better in the end.

If you can't name the pet shop here, please feel free to send a pm to me.

My current tank is starting to look overstocked with all them guppies so I'm desperate to get a new tank soon soon ^^,

    MTS you bastid :p

    Hi Linxie,

You shouldn't try buying from a glass company as they will rip you off, rather try a glass supplier... i built my tank myself, its 1.5L x 300W x 500H,6mm thick, the glass cost me R400 and to stick it cost me R200...

    Thanks JesseG
I'll look for some glass suppliers then... Can't believe the amount these guys asked for one pane of glass.

Don't have the prices with me, but one side was R197... all in all the tank would have come to about R700.00 - R900.00

thats ridiculous, my dimensions are bigger than yours, so yours should be about R200 - R300 cheaper...by the way, who is going to stick the tank up for you?

    Hey Linxie,

I have a 900mm (w) x 350mm (d) x 500 (h) tank that needs cleaning up and resealing if you are interested?? One of the braces will need a new piece in, but that won't cost much!

I was going to do it myself, but haven't had the time (baby arrival, back packing in, etc, etc!)!! I saw the same type, but not as deep for R800, so I'll take R200 for it if you want it??

    Let me know??
    Cheers
    G!

Well, as I say, its does need a clean up, and the labour time to reseal it! but otherwise its fine and a good restoration project!! Lol!!

I'll see if I can manage to get a pic for you later! No promises tho, as I can still hardly walk!!

    Cheers

Ok, heres some quick shots that are not so good, but all I could manage at the moment!!

I've had a bit of a look at it, and theres no cracks (other than the bracing as stated) and only minor scratches, nothing major!! the marks on the pic are either silicon, reflections or general dirt, depending on which bit you are looking at!?

The Mirrored trim around the top does show through the marks of where it was siliconed to the main glass, so that could do with a tidy up or replacement, or even just left off once you've stripped it down??

I also think its actually 600mm down (including trim) rather than the 500mm I said earlier!!

Again as pointed out, the only real bit of work is the bracing! Its been done really strangely, so I would do one strip of 6mm across the front and back to sort that!

It had glass sliding lids in, but one smashed completely and the other came with a huge chip out of it. The runners are inside the tank, along with some leaves and a plastic bag (which you are welcome to take should you so desire, lol!!).

    Cheers
    G!

LOL Thanks Big G, I meant you should take photo's of your fish :D but I appreciate a pic of the tank.

For what I'm paying, I honestly don't mind about the brace or how dirty it is. I'll probably sit and clean it thoroughly on Sunday morning, fix it up then fill it to test :)

haha!! No worries I'm gonna do a complete thread on My Apistos once they all arrive, although I do struggle with brown water so, the pics probably won't come out too well!! Again i'll see what I can do!!

    Cheers
