Hi im looking for some advise wrt fixing an tank side panel the tank size 2.1x600wide x 800deep the side panel seems to have an crack its 12mm glass. Would it be possible to cut an 10mm piece and stick ot over it. The outside is painted and not gonna be visible. Or do i need to replace the panel. The tank isn't t moving friendly.
    Thanks

Best to replace the cracked glass, but before you do, investigate the reason why it cracked to avoid a repeat.

Maybe the tank stand didn't support the entire glass panel, check for areas with no contact between the frame and glass.

i can not see the crack very clearly at all so do not want to over commit with comments
I have always had far better luck with sticking repair piece on the inside of the tank
using water pressure and silicone to make the seal.
i would get full size replacement part stick it from the inside, seal it fully and probably do a 30x10mm glass seam as well

Thank you for your reply the panel isn't broken but there are hairline cracks. As you know with big tanks moving it around for repairs isn't possible. so far the plan is to get the paint off on the outside 10mm panel patch on the inside and 6mm on the outside.I will have to remove bracing to do an full height replacement . but currently I can replace the water level part maybe 30mm above.

I will get an better pic this afternoon.
But does this plan sound possible to you?

I still think the best way is to remove broken panel and replace it.

@top dog I have a small 2 foot tank that was given to me with a broken bottom panel, would this method work on a small tank like that, or is it not worth it? I don't even have any idea what glass costs these days? I never really even though of this idea, but I think its a brilliant idea. Seems quick, easy and simply enough.

You can fix this with a new piece of 6mm glass from builders. Inexpensive and will last ages

Hijacking threads again, @Barry Roux Sorry,

@Whoknows Removing and replacing the broken piece or sticking a new piece over the old piece from the inside, covering the entire bottom panel? (Would obviously need to be cut a bit smaller to fit properly inside) I would imagine that sticking a new piece inside is going to be much quicker and easier?

Apologies to @Barry Roux for the hi-jack but I have no idea how to help with the large tanks small ones are easier

Both options would work but I'd just replace the bace with a fresh piece. I wouldn't want to risk it cracking again plus you lose some volume with it on top and on that size tank you want all the volume you can get:)
