As long as the filter inlet slats at the bottom are underwater, no problems. If you position the spraybar just under the water surface, so it creates ripples, you'll get sufficient gas exchange.
Without a spraybar as it currently is, I'd have the outlet just below water surface. I nudge mine down a bit after I get a bit of evaporation (on my smallest tank that also has a small internal filter).

OK that seems to help woth the bubbles too.
As to the noise it's makes? It's there any way I can fix that?

OK so now I left it so the outlet is just below the surface and then it started making a sucking noise, but not like the sucking noise it's supposed to make with the air tube.. I'm not sure how to describe it

Besides placing the outlet just below the surface, and twisting that black thing as Jacques suggested, the only other thing I would try is adjusting the media inside the canister.
Mine is filled with 1/3 sponge, the rest Matrix, although I found I had to adjust the amounts to get the flow and sound right.
It will sometimes making sucking sounds initially but usually settles down.

Try testing it with no media to see if the issue is something else?

    OK I'll do that.
My friend just told me that hers also made quite a lot of noise when she first got it, to the point where she was going to replace it, but then it got quieter.. So maybe it's just a case of wearing in a bit?
Maybe if that is the case, then the issue of making bubbles will also sort itself out.. I'll leave it till the weekend and see

On a brighter note, I got my new light fitted in on my 100l tank! (hehe excuse the pun)
Only issue I've been having so far on this tank is that my banjo likes to dig up the cobra grass but otherwise it all seems to be going well!

So a small update, I've moved all my baby cories to my 100l tank now, so I have 5 albino Cory's in total amongst the others I mentioned earlier.
I've lost only 1 plant, it was the hygro willow. I'm not actually sure what happened, I only just noticed yesterday that it's not there anymore..
So after my exams I'll see how the plants are all doing and decide then if I want more or not, and then I'll also look at getting more fish. That'll only be in November though..

Sure! Not much has changed, I have also been adding some seachem flourish (I decided to try weekly doses and see how that goes) and then excel every second day, but @TetraJacques suggested going daily so I'll start doing that this week

@T. Guppy - Remember I don't use Excel. I've just read that it breaks down after 24 hours and is recommended on a daily basis. It's better you get proper advise from someone who uses it.

Oh OK, it does also say on the bottle to dose daily, and if it breaks down it also makes sense to dose it more often

I'm no expert at planted tanks but I dont think that gravel is suitable to grow plants
You can use pfs and done root tabs for the planted plants

Thanks @MariaS. I have removed that gravel and replaced it with pfs.
I wasn't able to find root tabs at the time but I'll keep my eye out for them. A friend of mine just told me now she saw some at the pet shop in Stoneridge so I'll head out there sometime to get some

I have gravel and although initially not ideal it works for me. I have some big root feeding plants that have settled nicely.

Tank cleaning plays a big part. Fish poop is great ferts and I take this in to consideration when cleaning. I do still add ferts for my other plants but no extra root tabs.

That's good to know. It's only been a week but the plants don't seem to be struggling yet so maybe I can just leave it for now and see how it goes.. I can always add them in after a month of things aren't looking so great

So I decided to try redo my 30l this evening. I got rid of most of the duckweed and moved some things around, added another rock in too. I still haven't yet decided what fish to put in here yet, but I'm not in a rush to stock it yet, so I'll keep thinking about that
