    Hi

So generally the question often pops up regarding sutiable tank mates,
People generally depend on the advice from the petshop's sales assistant, and
unfortuantely majority of the time they do not have a clue of what they are talking about.
Therefore I would like to make a request to admin, to make this a sticky where a quick reference can be made.

I think if we stick to a format , it will be more beneficial

    Tank size: 90cmx30cmx38cm
    Filtration:Aquaclear 300 , dolphin internal filter
    Temperature: 27 degrees
Fish and size: 2xred tiger oscars +-4cm,1 black ghost knife +-5cm, 1 hi fin pleco +- 5cm
    Substrate: Normal petshop gravel
    Period kept:+- 12 months
    Issues:No real issues

    Tank size: 120cmx45cmx45cm
Filtration:Aquaclear 500 , Atman external cannister filter, Dolphin Internal cannister filter
    Temperature: 30 degrees
Fish and size: 1 black ghost knife +-8cm, 1 hi fin pleco +- 12cm, 11 scissor tails +-5cm,2xtinfoil barbs +-5cm,3 silver dollars 5cm,5 clown loaches 5cm,1 frontosa 5cm,1 pakistani loach 5cm,2 green deacons 4cm,red tail black shark 6cm, albino corys 3cm,
    Substrate: Normal petshop gravel
    Period kept:+- 24 months
Issues:I added 2 high fin pangasius cats +- 10cm, they lasted about a week and died :(.

Having a temperatue of 30, all my fish rapidly grew but ate alot as well , which meant more dirt=more water changes or filtration.I added the Aqua clear 500 and it helped alot.I have not performed as much water changes as I should but my wish were colourful and grew really fast. The tank was peaceful and a beauty to look at.The only issue I had was that the tinfoil barbs and silver dollars ate most of the food , therefore I had to overfeed so that little guys and and the loaches could get some food too.No food was wasted as the clowns constantly searched for left over food in the gravel. The scissortails grew quite big and were really beautiful when shoaling.

I'm not sure you are the right person to be making such comments, considering you have not just one, but two Oscars, with two other tank mates in a ridiculously small tank.

It's also terribly worrying that said Oscars are only 4cm, after 12 months.

By this time they should be 12-15cm already.

Thank you so much SauRon for pointing that out.If you read correctly you will notice that the oscars have been in that tank +-12 months, I'm sure it was less than that as I had this tank a few years back.
This thread is about fish hobbyists sharing their personal experiences with various tankmates. If you have some experience on fishkeeping, share some information about your tankmates.

    Hi My few cents worth

    TANK SIZE: 2400X700X700
FILTRATION: 2 Eheim 2213 and 2 Tetratec EX1200 with a 8w UV light (all canister filters) Regeant 1500l\h power head, Sunsun 1200l\h power head with huge foam filter, 4000l\h wave maker
    TEMPERATURE: 27 degrees
FISH: 4 Clown Loaches, 4 Pakhistani loaches, 5 Coolie Loaches, 2 Banjos, 4 Whiptails, 2 sailfin upside down catfish (12-13cm), 1 Golden longfin pleceo, 1 spotted longfin plece, some Danios, some Platties and swords (cant catch them), 12 Black widows, 12 different Cory's, 12 Endler guppies, 5 Ottos, 15 Cardinals, 15 Neons and 4-5 fish cant get the names now
SUBSTRATE: "West Coast" pebble mix and silica pool sand
    PERIOD KEPT: Over an year
ISSUES: Water change and gravel cleaning take some time. Plants can grow better, but I neglect them a bit. I have to get in a routine on the fert dosing, but getting slack. Have a few tanks in the garage as well that keeps me busy. Lost a whiptail 2 weeks after buying it and I think I lost 2 Danios and a Platty as well since starting up the tank.

You clearly don't understand my point.

Those Oscars shouldn't be in that tank at all, unless it's an emergency situation.

Oscars need about 200 litres of tank volume each.

The fact that you say they are 4cm only, after 12 months, indicates that they are already stinted in growth.

It's ABUSE, having all those fish in such a small tank for such a long time.

Agreed. I had my two Albino Oscars in a 3ft standard for a few months until I got a bigger tank. They grew from +-6cm to +-11cm. Since then, I have moved them to a 4ft tank and they have grown to +-16cm. All this happened in about 8 Months. Feed them well, provide enough space and do plenty of water changes if you want the best growth for them.

Well neither your first post, nor your clarification in your second post made any real sense.

It only started to come together after your third post above.

So can you honestly blame me for not reading your mind correctly?

    Tank size: 120cmx45cmx55cm
    Filtration: Fluval 305 Canister
    Temperature: 25 degrees
Fish and size: 1 x Albino Tiger Oscar, 1 x Rainbow Shark
Substrate: Salt & Pepper - White Silica mixed with Black Sand.
    Period kept:+- 18 months
Issues: Oscar demands to sleep inside one of those plastic ships, even though he is too large to go inside without injury. If you remove it however, he stop eating.

    Tank size:300L
    Filtration: VIA Aqua 350 , 800l/h
    Temperature:+/- 26 degrees
    Fish and size: 5 x parrots, 4 x yellow tail acei, 5 x angels, 1 X molly , 3 X convicts , 1X leopard pleco, 3 X yellow mbunas,

Fish are all quite small accept for 2 parrots and convicts which are larger +/- 7cm and pleco about 20cm
    Substrate: Normal petshop gravel
    Period kept:+- 2 months
Issues: pair of convicts turned out to be breeding pair and got quite aggressive after eggs were laid, male charged at everything that came close, I since removed the pot eggs were laid in and the pair to a seperate tank where they can be alone, the 3rd convict is still very happy and peacful..

looking to add a pair of clown loach but will do research before i do....
