    Hey guys,

I landed myself a Fire Eel (I'm still trying to clean the pants I wore when I saw him in the shop!) but he's very shy in the tank. I literally never see him. Only a nose poking out now and then... I ensured some proper hiding from the other tank mates before I introduced him, but they're not agressive at all towards him so I don't understand why he's so shy.

Is it only because he's in a new tank?

Yo Shib's - congrats dude...you got the fish of your dreams....

Dont worry - taming him will take some time, not gonna happen overnight... Expect him to be shy for the next month or two in general... Ensure that he gets enough chow by dropping some bloodworm or other meaty foods near him at light out time for the next while or so...

Fire Eels in general dont realy "show" themselves all the time, but will be more active later as he gains more confidence...

Now just to get him to feed from your hand...he,he

Seems eels are all shy in the beginning and not long after will come and feed out of your hand.
Little patients will have its due rewards.

    Thanks guys!

I must say I optimised the tank a bit to cater for his needs by making little gaps and crevaces where he can come and go through, and then added a little water conditioner just to ensure that the water specs are stable, and about an hour later he was swimming around in the tank looking for food. When I stick my hand in, he "sniffs" at my finger so I don't think it'll be to long before he'll take food from my hand... Yay!

    Right, now there's another issue...

It seems that ALL my fish suddenly became nocturnal or mutated into vampire fish, because they're all active when the lights are off, but as soon as I turn the lights on, they scatter into all the holes of the tank and I don't see them till the lights go out...

Could it be that they've always been this scared but just never had hiding place, or is the presence of the eel too much for them to bare..?

    Very weird...
