    Hello All,

In my very confusing quest to plan my new tank the 1 thing that I still cannot get down 100% is the thickness of glass.

I would be interested to know about the members tanks in terms of size & glass thickness. (As almost every lfs has different takes on the required thickness)

I am currently looking at around a +-1800mm tank.

    So I will start,

    My first tank
    1200mm(L) x 450mm (W) x 450mm (H)
    6mm glass all round

    My second tank
    1200mm(L) x 450mm (W) x 450mm (H)
    6mm glass sides
    10mm glass base

Looking forward to hearing from follow TASA members :)

For an 1.8m tank, I would not go any thinner than 12mm. Why take the chance and go thinner? 10mm May be enough to contain it, but there would be no safety factor, so the slightest tap on the glass could lead to a crack, or burst.

12mm minimum in my eyes, but this also depends a lot on tank depth and width. If you are going for a deep and wide tank, obviously the capacity is greatly increased, and more pressure will be on each panel of glass. If this is going to be a tall tank, then you may need to go up to 15mm?

Then there's bracing to consider. The kind of bracing used will affect the strength of the tank overall.

Hope that helps, but its always best to be over cautious and allow some tollerance than to try and 'skimp and save' by going with what will 'just about' do?

    Regards
    G!

I've got a 1800x600x600 with 10ml glass braced at the top and bottom.

You have to keep your budget in mind as well. The thicker you go the more you spend.
