    Hi all,

I had a tank built with dimensions 1m x 0.5m x 0.5m, 10mm glass. The tank builder said they always brace tanks deeper then 400mm. He said to be safe he wants to but a brace in the middle at the top. Is this brace really needed or can I remove it. Id like the tank to be rimless?

Rather do a euro brace then. Looks good and offers the same benefits or go with 12mm glass then you can have rimless

My 1,5m is rimless but only 40cm high and 40cm wide with 10mm. What @Whoknows says makes sense, as the extra height puts a lot of extra pressure on the glass

I plugged those dimensions into this calculator: https://www.easycalculation.com/measurement/aquarium-glass-thickness-calculator.php

And for 10mm glass it gives it a safety factor of about 4.4. This is pretty good, but for a rimless tank you'd want it closer to around 5.7 which would mean 12mm glass. I've had a big tank explode because of an inadequate safety factor, along with shoddy workmanship on my part, and it's heart breaking.

@Whoknows is spot on about the bracing/glass thickness. Check with the builder around how he will do the bracing too. Eurobracing can look pretty slick and have minimal impact on the scape, and you have the option of easily adding some glass lids later.
