Okay as much as i would like to think that i know a little about tanganyikan cichlids, i learn more and more everyday, today will be another day, can someone please assist with an I.D on this fish.
This particular "species" has been breed in my community tanganyika tank, which i assumed when it was fry its from my Julidochromis marlieri, it is now approx 5cm in size which i think you should be able to clearly identify the species.
The only other julidochromis in the community tank are Julie regani.
Your assistance would be appreciated, apologies for the quality don't have the Nikon close by.

Sies! You can't call that a Julidochromis bru... probably Regani / Marlieri cross... maybe it's just the photos but that's certainly no Marlieri and if it's a young Regani it has very poor markings.
Maybe somebody has a Frontosa you can feed that to? Hahahah! Sorry for being so harsh but I've given pairs that looked a lot closer to a species than that.

Also no expert myself but I have done a lot of research on Julidochromis species in order to breed quality specimens.

What else is / was in that tank? Does the fish have "Julie lips"? Looks more Leleupi / Cylindricus like in the first photo.
Also, the gold on the eye looks like it's from a Buescheri... who (if I recall correctly) are known to cross breed with Julidochromis at times.

    Cheers,
    Jack

Believe me that it was no plan to attempt to create a new species of cichlid, and i have alot of them, but i was interested to see what they look like when they develop beyond the stages of fry, the buescheri theory does throw a spanner in the works did not think that is a possibility.
Oh and speaking of the buescheri that male i have lost:bawling:, checked the whole tank no signs of him anywhere, last saw him a few weeks ago
