Does anybody know where I can get reasonably priced T5's for a planted tank? (eg. Chinese no name brands) I want to set up a 4 tube pendant, but paying R250-R350 per tube would be a bit excessive!
Has anybody used warm whites for plants before?

Sorry, I don't know Jo'burg that well. Perhaps someone else would be able to direct you somewhere there. I got mine recently locally (CT) for next to nothing.

    T5 in CT

Hi check out hillfox , I think they have both chinese and the expensive jobs. Also check out AC/DC in the phone book, they are domestic electrical wholesalers but will sell to anyone with money, they may have them. Sorry no numbers but am now based in CT and left Jhb 11 years ago.

LFS in CT has got Chinese 10 000K tubes for 69 bucks

Animal Kingdom (Hillfox) is where I normally buy plants and planted tank hardware, but they only have the expensive brand name products - for T5 tubes anyway.
AC/DC only have cool whites up to 32W.
I've seen some Sylvania Aquastars advertised mail order somewhere for around R140 ea, which I suppose is not too bad for dedicated aquarium lamps.

I agree with Henk. Any reasonaly large lighting retailer can get you Osram tubes for next to nothing compared to LFS prices. Osram Skywhite is a great bulb. I paid R30 for a 36W T8. Osram Fluora (I paid R150 for a 36W T8) is awesome in combination with the Skywhite. I run 2 Fluoras and 2 Skywhites and I'm happy. Plants dig it and the colour combination also looks good to the human eye. Both are important, IMO.

    A Question on etiquette

    HI all

Is it OK to give out the name of a LFS if it has specific items people are looking for. I dont want to free advertise ????

    CC needed

    Hi Guys and Gals

If you know a place that sells them to companies only - give me a shout and I will arrange to get them for you guys. The company I am with has accounts with all the majoe electrical wholesalers so if there is one out there I can arrange..
