    Males inseminate females.
Females lay eggs as suitable conditions present themselves in a few weeks after insemination.
Males have TWO EXTERNALLY COMMUNICATING glands.
ONE at caudal peduncle, and with further maturity, an extension from the opercular area.

SO we have a weird tetra
    with a SwordTail extension?
    YES!

    It fertilises eggs INTERNALLY?
    YES!

It has these GLANDS, one of which DANGLES, from it's CHEEKS?
    Right again!

And you still want me to believe it's a TETRA ?
    Yep!

I saw a TANKFULL at local wholesalers, ~ 3cm size. I don't know what these will sell for.
I haven't seen them in Cape before. I'm sure SOMEBODY must have had these somewhere along the line.

    Well, it's a Characin, which comprises :
Tetra, Silver Dollar, Pirhana, Pacu, Congo "Tetra" amongst others.

These SwordTail Characins are aquarium hobby singularl placement into a special family grouping Glandulocaudinae.
ummmm, that name seems to describe one of their special features , briefly mentioned above.

Corynopoma riisei can be thought of as VERY SHALLOW-BUILT Silver Hatchets..in that they frequent the upper reaches of your tank.

A Tetra, as I said before is a Characin, but not all Characins are tetra:eek:

In case you have ever wondered how it's pronounced:

    KA RA SIN

    not CHA ra KIN:p

I wish I can lay my hands on some to OFFER here, and pass a few into one of my planted projects....they'd rock! .

    You're right though!
A SHEDLOAD of niceties , oddities, and some rarities are bound for South Africa before this year is out.

Not to mention my addiction to Discus/Angels/Cats being satisfied EVERY 2-3 weeks from now until I somebody offers me Wilds as well

I've kept them before, very nice fish, and very active too. Only problem is that they are a little suceptible to parasites, so keep an eye out for that. Really want to keep them again....

    I'm taking some

Well, parasites have to come from somewhere.
What sort of bug did you have to contend with?
Are you saying your fish came in with a latent problem, or easily picked it up from other aquarium inhabitants?

I'm gonna take a few dozen, and if you want, I can help you get some again?

I haven't seen them often, when I do, they either HAVE whitespot or catch it somewher along the lines in the home tank. Pity really, I like thse fish.

Unfortunately most of my tanks have larger, predatory fish, so these guys aren't an option. I might soon have space, but exactly when I can't tell you. Thanks for the offer anyway. :)
