I have a ridiculous idea of making a Betta/Siamese Fighter tank out of my busted Xbox 360.

It should give me just about 1 Gallon of water, if I put a tank inside the casing.

My idea is to put a tank inside that just fits, for easy removal and cleaning.

But I actually want to make this fully operational, and plan to make the "window" smaller than the tank itself, so as to hide the lighting and equipment completely.

Almost want to make it something like a Lava lamp. wire it so that a single cord comes out and plugs into the wall, maybe with a 2 or 3-way switch to put the lights on and off and such.

Now my question is, do these kind of things exist that would work in such a super mini unit?

Yeah - not sure if the xbox plastic is fish safe.

But I use a number of small units.
    EDEN 304 +- R100 5W 240l/h 42x43x120mm
    Resun SP-600L +- R120 5W 260l/h 42x42x142mm (nice spray bar included)

I remove the internal filter stuff that ships with the pump and just use batting as mechanical filtration.

Boyu makes an underwater light strip .. never used it.

Smallest heater I've seen is a 25W at Sams. There's a range of very thin heater he always has. Very old design with no thermostat but nice and small.
I know Altum had some extremely small powerhead type pumps, might come in handy.
For lighting maybe look at some of the LED "moonlight" type units.

Right you are Rory ... I think you are talking about the Thermal Compact from Hagen (or others?) The 50Watt I am looking at is 24cm by 15mm with the element being half of that. Old stock a LFS needed to dump ;-)

Yes that is what they are called. Think Sams is the only place I've ever seen them in CT.

Won't be using the case itself for the tank, will simply use it as a fancy "box".

Plan to put a tank inside the casing, and simply hide the hardware around the tank by calculation.

It's all a bit of a silly idea, might not actually go through with it, just toying with the concept, since I have the thing laying about doing nothing.

I figured quite possibly being inside a plastic case, and with some extra heat from the light unit, that a heater probably isn't necessary at all.

Currently my Betta just chills in a bowl, with no equipment whatsoever.

Only reason I want to add stuff to this one in presentation, and maybe planting it.
