hey guys i went on another site and a number of their members use super glue to stick moss, java fern and anubias to objects:amazed:. what is your take on this? i would of thought that it would be toxic and a big no no. they use the gel as it sticks better or something like that but i would have thought it would leach chemicals into the water especially once it starts breaking down?:wondering: its an interesting thought though if it doesnt leach, it would mean one could do away with the cotton and rubber bands and the glue would be invisible... in particular i think it would be a good way to fix moss to wood ect.

so why not just marine silicone? I have done this plenty of times. Only difficulty is with plants but even so plans can survive for a while out of water

I don't think superglue is a good idea. I use marine silicone and it works well.

I've used super glue in my marine tanks before... Worked like a charm...
And Marines are way more sensitive than tropical - so I recon you will be ok.

For hard corals and LPS I've used Prattly putty - But I can't think of any uses of that in tropicals...?

    But wait for more confirmation...

@Wandrag is there a specific brand you prefer to use? very true about marine systems, what do you use it for in there? i dont know if i would use it for anubias but i really think if its safe it would be a good thing for moss. my moss in the 1.2m keeps drifting off and clogging my filter.

@shirh you could, and it would have the bonus of you being able to mould it to you idea. i suppose one could even make a back panel that looks like rock? you could have slots near the bottom for water inlet and have spots where anubias ect could be attached. it would be lighter than actual clay as well i think. normal clay is bloody heavy especially the type one would use in a tank, i think its called roc, my ma would know. you could probably paint the putty as well, cant think with what though...

Try get the Supeglue Gel. I'm sure Bostick makes it. I also use it in my Marine tank and there are no adverse effects of using it in your tank. Just use it quickly, and let it set for around 30 seconds, then pop it in your tank.

umm guys, u over thinking the situation.. for moss and anubias, just use cotton thread to bind the plants to whatever you want! in time the cotton will rot away and the plants will be set! :)

Wow.. I also would've figured that super glue would be harmful!!

Just another n00bie question tho.. would the glue be used only to get it to attach/grow on the surface you glue it to? Or will the glue keep it glued in place instead of the plant attaching itself to the said surface??

whats nice about using super glue is that you dont even need to take whatever you are sticking the plant to out of the water, just a dab of super glue on the plant and you can press it down on the wood or rock under water. How do you guys do it with silicone ? Silicone takes a while to cure.
