I have a school of neons and their behaviour is very odd. I thought they will always school together but they only school for 2 hours after the lights are on and then again for about 2 hours before the lights are put off the rest of the time they are all by themselves. What is the reason for this i thought they are always together?

If they feel safe they would swin around on their own. Schooling is mostly a defense mechanism.

Yes it is nothing strange. You will see them school sometimes just for the fun of it and swimming from one side to the other.
You can always add some fish to keep them on their toes and in their school.

I have one large angel in my tank (middle dweller)
    3 Apisto. Cacatoiud (bottom dweller)
1 male + 5 femal Siamese fighters (top and bottom dwellers)

These are my main focus points of the tank. I thought that throwing in 20 Prisella Tetra's as a schooling fish would contrast nicely! They are doing exactly the same... swimming wherever each one's heart desires... makes it look a bit messy... but hey... it's still looking impressive!
