    Hey guys,

It breaks my heart to see all your awesome tanks and look at the pictures of my old 4ft, knowing that my new place doesn't accomodate it... yet... :-( This is the one hobby I'll never grow tired of!

Hear hear: There is a LFS is Pretoria that currently has freshwater stingrays and lots of morays up for grabs at a very decent price... They are SO COOL! I WANT!
    Stay wet!

    SHiBBY out!

@SHiBBY, be careful when buying Stingrays as they are just as dangerous as the marine ones, & I don't think you want to end up the same way as the Croc Hunter... Just a suggestion.

Most stringrays are illegal in SA, not to mention that they're notorious for dying extremely easily, especially after mishandling at the pet store. It'll most likely die before it has the chance to kill you.

That's really sad, I'm so against taking marine fish from the ocean and putting them into a tank for our enjoyment. It's like catching a wild bird and putting it into a small cage... Thanks for that @SalmonAfrica, it's an interesting topic. What about the freshwater eels? I have seen some at my lfs... I wonder if they are ever capable of reaching the size of the marine ones?

It depends on the species of eel we're talking about here, and if indeed they are freshwater. There are a hang of a lot of eel-like fish available, which range from 10cm to about a meter in potential length, so it's a good idea to know exactly what you're planning on taking home.

The most popular freshwater 'eels' are Spiny Eels, and they're capable of getting from 30cm upward depending on the species.

Then you get 'freshwater' morays, which are not truly freshwater at all, but instead are brackish water fish, eventually needing marine water as adults. The most common of these gets to about 60cm, though there are smaller (but rarer) species. None of these ever get as big as some of the marine eels, which often exceed a meter or two.
