    Hi Guys

Quick question - What are the dimensions of a standard 1.2m LFS tank? I think I have convinced the Mrs to let me have a bigger tank

I found these std dimensions previously...

But you don't need to stick to them. I make my own tanks to the sizes I want, depending on where I'm going to place the tank. Also, some suppliers will make there own standard sizes, eg many 1.2m (or 4 ft) tanks I have seen in fish shops are 120 x 45 x 45 cm.

@SethD - Thanks very much. The tables dimensions are 1240(l)x530(w)x735(h) so I think I have some decent options. If I go for 1200x500x500 it would be 300l

    Hi Again
I've been talking to @Vez about his 1.2x0.45x0.45m tank and I've picked up a difference which maybe someone can explain. In his tank he has 3 braces of 0.45m long across the top left, middle and right hand side. The bracing on the tank I'm looking at is 2 of 1.2m running the length of the tank. Any ideas why it's different and which is the safer/better way?

    Hi @MarcHawke

I think it depends on the tank builder/supplier. My very first 1,2m tank had the two bracings along the top length and one in the middle. I recently bought 3 more 1,2m tanks and they all have the two bracings at the top like the ones you are looking at. I have seen tanks supplied by other well known brand name companies which have the double bracing acroos the length with 3 braces across the width.

    Hope this helps you.

@Shakes - Do the longitudinal braces get in the way when you are working in the tank. The top of my tank would be at about 1.3m above the ground.

The bracing that runs the width of the tank can get in the way sometimes, but I would rather struggle for an extra 10 minutes then not be happy with leaving the tank on it's own.
My 4ft has bracing across the length of the tank, top and bottom. It also has 3 braces running it's width and I just think it makes it stronger.

@MarkHawke - if you gona purchase from LPS, then give the tank a good inspection for sloppy silicone work, scratches, chips, and even ask them to do a leak test. in my past ive had to take tanks back for leaks and big tank is a schlep to schlep around. some tanks on display are moved around often and take many bumps. think of asking them to make your special one to order:blink1:

@disco - no worries dude. I don't know if we have a member named Mark but if we do, he will be wondering why he keeps getting notified about posts he knows nothing about. You aren't the first and probably not the last.
