My 4 ft has an internal sump on the one side with 3 chambers. I have left the first chamber empty. The second has filter floss on the top with a bed of Ceramic rings which overflows into the 3rd chamber (see drawing for clarity)

At the moment, I have the return pump connected to a home made spraybar running along the back wall of the tank shooting toward the front glass. I feel this is not ideal as the water is not being pushed toward the intake which is at the bottom front of the tank (into the sump). In essence, not having any circulation directed to the intake.

I am thinking to replace the spraybar with another piece of pvc with an elbow at the end and have the water shoot toward the wall that has the intake. Would this be a better option? See pic below.

The way I see it, if I position the spraybar on the short side toward the intake, there wouldnt be any flow at the bottom of the tank. In its current layout, I dont think there is any flow at the bottom of the tank.
Another option is to get an addition pump (wavemaker type) and position it toward the bottom of the tank in line with the intake but then it would be visible in the tank.

Any suggestions? Please let me know if I seem to be overthinking it or missing something out.

    Thanks in Advance

I have a cube with a similar design sump. Im in the process of building a spray bar as Ive found that if I just have a single outlet at the back I sit with high flow areas that causes the tall plants to bunch up and dead spots in other areas. the only way Ive managed to get around that is have the outlet exit in the middle of the tank from the top. But it then has a habit of washing my sand away.

I haven't found a solution to this issue as yet. Currently, I have the spray-bar off because of dead spots. Not sure really what to do.

I took off my spray bars on the 2 cannisters I run in my 4ft I feel the force generated by the nozzles work better to create a circular flow. I also have an internal power head to keep debris tocthe front of the tank so I can pick it up with my water changes
