So the recovery has been great ... and They seem to be doing well in a few tanks. Have not been doing loads of maintenance but here are some pics of the current growth and runners starting in other tanks.

These have been doing great in 360 degrees over the last few months.

Look what arrived today- a present from Santa aka @f-fish  gratis en verniet, he even insisted on carrying the courier costs. In a Lego box of course!

About 20 spiral Val to propagate and eventually share with the rest of Cape Town! I’ve never seen them around locally and am very excited but also feeling a bit of pressure  they are apparently less robust than normal Val, and can take a while to take off.

Planted most of them in the 38L (good light, soil substrate, space) but also hedged the bets and put some in the 180L, 44L and 1,5m. Used the last of my Dymax root tabs, but he also threw in some osmocote that I’ll pop into gel capsules.

Thanks again @f-fish , unexpectedly kind and generous of someone to do this and another example of how great TASA can be

Only a pleasure, the less robust is compared against other valllis that always seem to outcompete and smother these. Planted alone without other runner plants they should do fine.

I am considering doing an outside tank with just these in them... I know they can take direct sun.

Very cool and so healthy, good job on the propagation.

It certainly is one of the most interesting sword plants, I just love the texture it adds to tanks.

There is some deterioration/ melt in older leaves, which is to be expected as the plants adapt to a new environment, right? Don’t think it’s any reason to panic, will just trim away the dying blades.

Are you guys aware that the Vallisneria with the spiral leafs (which are awesome) isn't called Vallisneria spiralis ?
So the common name "spiral vallis" isn't Vallisneria spiralis but Vallisneria asiatica.
    Funny huh !

Unless that is your thing and reason to get out of bed every morning ... nah - give it time.

Hmmm actually think the more common name is ...
    corkscrew Vallisneria (Vallisneria asiatica)
