As my signature says, im stil deciding what to put into the 4ft. I just had it filled yesterday and started running the filter today.
The thing is that im unsure how long to wait for the tank to cycle? I've used atleast 15-20kg gravel from a cycled tank as well as the filter(hob 300lph) was running in another setup.
What do you guys think? Also recomend some hardy fish(i'll only be maintaining my own tank like once a week because the tank is at my aunties place eish) excuse any errors, im posting from my cell thanks to telkom

guppies and black widows are quite hardy.

Ask your Aunt to drop in some stabiltiy everyday?

or just be patient and do a fishless cycle

I have read on other forums of guys who have done it with out waterchanges, and it only takes about 2 days longer to stabilise, using cheap fish food instead of ammonia.

Not first prize, but maybe easier, as it will be mostly unnattended.

i had someone fill the tank while i wasnt there, they havnt aligned it properly before filling it. Now the tank is sitting a few mm off and the styrofoam is sticking out. Seems like i've got to empty it out and reset it, if you want something done right do it yourself.
Does anyone know what the price of a water test kit is?

tetra has a kit with the three nh3 and two nh2 tests, and a ph test in, for 300.

for 500 you could test ph, amonium, nitrite, nitrate, gh, kg some more random letters the whole she-bang

i went price hunting yesterday... dont have money yet, so havent bought anything, but still, the cheapest i found was 300 for multiple tests, and 120 for single tests
