    Hi everyone

Hendre is stepping down from running the monthly competitions this year as he needs to focus on other things. A huge thank you to him for volunteering to run the comps previously.

Is there anybody else that would like to volunteer to run the 4 monthly competitions for 2019? Pet of the month, Fish of the month, Tank of the month and Photo of the month.

We should have a competition and the winner gets to run the competitions for a year.

Ok... sorry if I am being blonde..

What Competition should we have to determine the winner that will run the competitions?
Is it a tank competition or do you mean the members must vote on the volunteers to determine who must run the competition

I wasn't being serious. If there is more than 1 person who is willing to take change then they can split the duties among themselves

:p I see what you did there.

As for picking one of the two beautiful assistants (I'm going out on a limb and blindly assuming here :p ), if they can't decide between themselves I say its the fairest if we go for "average activeness" - the amount of messages they've posted divided by the months they've been here, then the higher one gets to run the competition?

you could always put names up for a vote :)
i would have put my name up, but this is a longterm thing, not sure i can commit.
I think we should be looking for someone that will do a bit more than just start threads and announce winners.
currently there is really nothing to TOTM, it would be nice to have someone that would be able to chat to the sponsor and get a monthly prize. even if it is something small.

sorry, I know all talk no action from me, just a suggestion :)
might be able to contribute to a prize in future ;) similar to what @Christiaan Duvenage did with Amanos

@Ammar.... not sure if putting names up for a vote will work as, it doesn't help to put names up and vote, if those members don't really have the time or inclination to do it

As for monthly prizes, I agree it would be nice but not easy to get a sponsor that will commit to every month as some feel they already sponsors of the Forum and others prefer to run in store competitions and specials
The Yearly prize I found it was easy to get and we have had prizes for the yearly comps for the last 3 years
There is also nothing wrong with members that are in a position to be able to sponsor a prize for one month, to do so
If a few members volunteer to do a month here and there, we could land up with monthly prizes too

But right now, we need to start with someone that is happy and willing to run the Comps

Thanks @MariaS, with names I meant for those that put their names down for it, but i guess, anyone that has been with the forum for a while should be a good candidate and both @hviviers75 and @Amakawa are active members.
i can probably bet money that if a sponsor puts a small prize down even if it is a bottle of dechlor or a shrimp net, the person going to collect it from the shop will probably end up spending a couple hundred rand at that shop same day. when was the last time anyone walked into a petshop and walked out empty handed.
given a few months to recover with my shrimp, i will definetly sponsor some also maybe those guys that have something extra sitting somewhere can donate to the forum for prizes. would just makes thing more interesting and get more people involved in entering.

I walk out empty handed :( when my wife is around, closely watching my every step  all jokes though, she's recently "adopted" Deimos (the blue betta) from me and I think she's getting an MTS itch BAD, already talking about a "betta display unit" :D

Back to topic, I am also under the impression that going in to claim a prize leads a person to wanting to buy something else. Prizes however is just a bonus, winning a competition is just fun in itself :p

Hhahha that's what I said the other day.. get the wife to fall in love with a particular fish and voila... half the battle won

You are right... the comps should strickly speaking be fun for everyone and a measurement of yourself for yourself in evaluating your progress
and the prizes..... just a bonus when we can organize some.

Are u serious??? Why sponsor if you not willing to stick by it. That will reflect negatively on sponsor.

Thanks for volunteering :) Two heads are better than one they say ;) Would you guys like to alternate running the comps each month? For example @hviviers75 does Jan, Mar, May etc. and @Amakawa does Feb, Apr, Jun etc. And also do any other comps that we come up with during the year? :)

Or alternatively.... if it suits you better, one does two comps and the other one does the other two on a permanent basis?
