So I did some photography with Kattz's D90, and managed to get some half-decent shots.

He's in your tank, hunting your fish. My personal favourite photograph.

This is Steve, the mentally handicapped but least obnoxious Synodontis.

Mr G, my male Threespot Gourami; a homebreaker, wifebeater and nuisance, but loved all the same.

My Silver Arowana being difficult to photograph.

The big boys' night out. Who says only small, related species shoal, eh?

    "They see me rollin'
    they're hatin'
    We're prowlin'
We tryin' to catch 'em ridin' dirty
Tryin' to catch 'em ridin' dirty (x4)
    My mouth so large;
    I'm swangin'.
    They hopin'
That we don' gon' catch 'em ridin' dirty.

Mr G is a bit of an odd one out here, being from the other tank. What made you photograph him?

    Thanks guys :D

I saw that Mr G was not being a grumpy social recluse for once and was feeling the glass close to me, and I thought I'd try get a shot.

I took 75 photos, but these were the very best of the bunch. The shutter speed was quite slow because I had to turn off other lights to reduce glare, but I think they turned out alright.

They got a LOT of food last night :)

R120 seems to be the magic number for shovelnoses. If you do get one, just please make sure to feed just before the lights go off at night, because with your current fish stock, he won't be getting any food. I struggle enough to feed mine with just my arowana about.

Also, I may have a smaller tank, but I've got quite a few less fish than you; I'm not discouraging you to get one, but please remember he will grow fast and as big as your arowana one day. What size are the ones at Animal Kingdom?

Also, when these guys eat, they go all the way; as in, the mouth opens huge and the whole fish lunges forward in a split second and engulfs the fish half their size/tiny sinking pellet. My point is, they will always get a mouthful of gravel no matter what they're eating, so please make sure your gravel is not sharp. They're very good at spitting the sand and rounded pebbles out, but I don't think things will go as well with that standard coarse gravel.

Okay good. One day I'll have a set up much like that too :D

Personally, I think keeping one in a pond in the summer, at least in Cape Town, would work. I've kept Synodontis eupterus, a Silver Dollar and a Rio tetra in a pond with koi for two months in the summer, and they are all alive today, back in my tanks.

But, no, I wouldn't recommend it, though you'd get some great growth :)
