Its a Hi fin thingy! The name excapes me just now!

If it suddenly comes to me I'll let you know!

All I remember is that despite its name, its not actually what its supposed to be! It belongs to another family all together! Quite confusing really!

    Cheers
    Big G

it looks like a synodontis of some sort. I dont think they are true algae eaters.

I agree with risen that it is a Synodontis. These are African catfish, not necessarily fish eaters, and are actually good fish to keep. They are not algae eaters though.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

It will surely gobble a smaller tetra or barb if it comes across it... seen it a few times :D

Yes, Henk, I agree that it will eat small fishes, but then angels eat small fishes as well and in general these fishes will not shred everything around them and they are relatively peaceful, right? They are not big diggers either if I remember correctly?

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

Yea and most of them want soft acid water and not the hard alk water that the LFS's sell them as. It really gets me when i see these fish in with malawis....

I think the only one that comes from Lake Malawi is Synodontis petricola, all the rest come from soft water sources as you mention.
