This thread is a thread to gain advice. Today I visited a shop where they were unpacking freshly imported snake heads. Channa micropeltes.

This being the giant snake head! I spoke to a shop assistant and asked him what they were "Snakeheads" I said yes, he looked at me...said "these are very aggressive fish"...I replied "and equally illegal"...he then walked away...unfortunately I couldn't find another employee besides the guys at till and the chaps who catch the fish.

What is the correct action to take here, I feel go there with a deep freeze and chuck them all in....or am i over reacting?

They will survive the Deep freeze... Just about.

I'd say get hold of the authorities... Who are the people who compile the Black List? CITES?

It's not the shop assistants fault though. They don't know too much about the hobby in most of the local stores... But there is obviously a demand for them.

ah that is true slagter! Not sure at all who to contact. Absolutely agree about the assistants its the wankers who place/make the orders that are part of the problem.

this really sucks. Seen the doc on what they did in the US. They even survive out of water for days. Well see a big problem here.

I'm a environmentalist for durban council so if the shop happens to be in durban then you can pm me. Alternatively you can contact the department of environmental affairs and tourism and/or the police. As a citizen you can lay a charge at any police station against the shop... This is a very serious issue and you need to be proactive about it. You can even try and get hold of the green scorpions... For any more info or if you would like further assistance please pm me. Excuse the lack of spaces but this was written on my phone. Cheers

I saw that documentary on natgeo wild about snake heads and i am sickened by the way people just import fish that will be released because they will grow to big for there small tanks and then take over our rivers. Well lets try and end this before it gets out of control.
