    Hi everybody,

I recently started a planted tank and it is going really good. My plants is growing good, but I think I have one problem.

The last week have been finding more and more small snails in the tank and so far they are ending up as fish food.

Want kind of fish can I get to control or get rid of these snails but which will not kill or effect my Apple Snails?

    Hi 10i,

I do not know the name of the snails. I hope you can identify them in the photo below.

Clown loaches...BUT...they need some special care. Despite the reputation as a difficult fish, they are actually easy to keep of you adhere to a few basic requirements:
    1. Temperature = 28 degrees C, even up to 30
    2. Feed frequently small meals. They eat all the time, but only small amounts. And they need to be fed a balanced diet of spirulina flakes or pellets and some frozen food like brine shrimp and bloodworms.
    3. Do not buy them if they are smaller than 5cm. At this young age they are probably already sick because of the stress incurred while being caught and transported. All clown loaches you can buy are wild caught. They don't breed in captivity.
    4. Look for the fattest ones in the shop.
    5. They don't like change so try not to rearrange the tank too frequently.
    6. Provide them with holes to hide in. It makes them feel safer when they can hide somewhere.
    7. They like lots of current in the water. Add a smallish powerhead. You will often see them play in the stream of water.
    8. They will get rid of your snails in no time. And if you have shrimp they will last about 10 seconds...

Depends on the size of the snails and the loaches. One year old loaches will eat smallish apple snails. I had 2 which I put in my clown loach tank just to see if they will survive and they lived about a month before I found the empty shells.
