Anyone have a quick solution to getting rid of snails in my discus tank? I think they were introduced through plants. I remove 5-10 per day, but they are increasing in numbers daily.

There's various snail treatment liquids on the market - all of them contain copper

Maybe it's a dumb question borne of ignorance but, why are people so anti-snail? I generally don't find them a problem, and quite like watching them at times. If I feel I have too many I simply remove the pleco's cucumber when it's encrusted with snails, and turf the lot in the garden.

Hey Dung - they can take over a tank in a very short space of time - My Leopoldi tank looks like a snail egg conservatory...

Ah ok Zafgak. Perhaps my clowns keep the numbers down, I never seem to have so many that I am worried about it.

In my community tank I have a Sh*t load of trumpet snails when it is lights off time and you switch it back on after a half an hours time it looks like if i have snails for gravel but this doesn't bother me at all because they eat all the left overs

Trumpet snails are generally good for the tank, but can get out of hand...

Thanx, got advise to put a slice cucumber in the tank overnight and remove in the morning. Removed approx 40-50 per day.

"try skunk botias." Nooooo do not (Sorry Dolphin) I my tanks these have been the most evil of fish - they do not fin nip they demolish fins and bug all the fish. Only place they have not caused damage was in the convict tank. They are also buggers to catch - will kill all eggs and love hitting on fry.

Maybe I had Satans spawn but I will not wish a skunk on my worst client. BTW also got some convicts at the same time as the skunks - turned out to be a pair but they did a 1000% better job on the snails than the skunks. Only get one if you do not want the risk for them breeding. You want some Convicts for the weekend? If they work with the snails you can keep them if not you can keep them ;-)
