I think this little fella caught a ride with some moss I got from a store. Anyone know what type it is? I did notice that my Ramshorn population seems to be a lot less prolific and thought maybe it is an Assassin but the colouring doesn't match, right?

    Maybe a Trumpet snail?

    Malaysian Trumpet Snail, or MTS.
Some (most) see them as a pest, as they breed incredibly quickly.
Assassin snails are effective against them.

Cool cool cool. I think maybe this weekend I'll buy one or two of these guys. My little 1ft fry tank is overrunning with TONS of these tiny little dark snails which I reckon an Assassin will LOVE and then I can move it over to my bigger tank where this MTS is.

Just remember, the Assassin snail doesn't eat algae etc... From what I read.

Thanks, but from what I've read they will scavenge and eat just about anything if their preferred food (other snails, crustaceans, worms) isn't available, including sinking wafers and shrimp pellets.

They MAY scavenge, but don't bet on it.
I have had Assassins that ate just about anything, while others would just eat a carnivorous diet of other snails, bloodworm and occasionally frozen artemia.

Assassins will feed on bloodworm, but it is not their primary prey.
The best is still pest snails.
