I have a major problem in my 200 litre tank. It is set up and running for 5 days and already there is a huge population of snails. I bought the tank second hand, and I assume the snails were iether in the gravel or the plants. Neverther less I need to controll them.

What is the best method of controlling them?

Put a lettuce leaf with a rock on it in the tank and then every morning remove leaf wash snails off and repeat or get clown loaches :)

I tried the lettuce leaf but unfortunately did not work at all. (Probabaly because there are live plants in my tank)

Thanks for info, I will try the clown loaches.

    I plan to keep frontosa's.

I will probably will remove the live plants, get about 2/3 clown loach's.

My only fear is will the Frontosa's and clown loach's live together.

If you going to remove the plants then dont get clowns as i dont think they can live with Frontosa's, just catch and crush the snails for the Front's.
Are you going to use the plants in a different tank.

    Hi you all

You can definitely put clowns and Fronts together i have about ten of each. Yellow labs will also help. From time to time i throw in some snails for my fronts and clowns.

Ah yes pond snails. you can just crush them on the glass....

Keeping fish that wants a higher PH (eg from lake Malawi) and fish that wants a lower (acidic) PH isnt a good idea. Clownloaches are prone to white spot if not kept in the right conditions.

hi varachhia001, i would suggest skunk loaches, they are a lot cheaper than clown loaches and much more agressive with the snails, but they are also horribly aggressive towaqrds any other fish, i would get 5 of them and leave them in the tank for two weeks to sort out the snails and eggs that might be buried in the gravel, but i would advise that you move all other fish out while the loaches are in there, then when you ready, sell the skunk loaches back to LPS. that is what i did and it sorted out the problem very very quickly.

i cant turn the bold lettering off for some reason so my apologies.

p.s. for your info skunk loaches are available her in CT for as low as R10 each as opposed to clown loaches which are priced from around R50 each.
