I'm looking for a Canister filter for the Nano, the little internal filter works great, but, to be honest, not very subtle on the eye.

Are there really small Canister Filters available, small enough to ensure a little 2.5gal wont be turned into a whirlpool? The smallest I've seen is the Resun Ml-600 and its rated at 600L/h, thats more than 60 times my tank volume.

    Any advice.

    Hi Ruan:

    I'm using this one:

And as u can see from the full tank shot there is actually very little current in the water. Just a gentle sway of the plants.. and it's working VERY well.

Oh.. it's a Boyu. (Dolphin can source it!)

Out of curiousity, how much did that cost you, roughly? And how much water does it filter per hour? I'm looking at getting one for a 60 litre grow-out tank.

Would one of those be suitable for a 1.5Ft tank? I can get them here for around R250.

    Thanx Zoom, that is perfect!

I'll get one at the end of the month then, just need to let the dust settle from my previous spending spree.

Saw the diy of that filter on another forum. You will find it when you put "diy nano canister filter" into google.
Problem I found is that I can't get a pump small enough. Also works better with a inline pump.

Yeah, it probably was. (Remind me to post a source link whenever I attach a picture.)

I came across this nifty looking filter while google-ing planted nano tanks.

Some Elite Power heads are small enough to fit in there. Tubing looks like it was from a gravel vac. Media can be basically any from Gravel to a combo of everything.

    Regards

I built a DIY canister similar to that and it's been running on my 20liter tank for nearly 2 years. The only issue I had was that it sprung an air leak on one of the pipes, but a liberal application of silicone fixed that. Oh, and I filled it with ceramic rings and covered the inlet with a sponge, haven't had to open it up once!

Here's the pics of my version one DIY canister. Underneath it is the type of container that will most likely seal a bit better because of the multiple small clips.

Is your water clear? I cant see any media fine enough to filter out minute particles in the water.
