    Hi there

I was wondering if anyone ever thought of or used one of these small swimming pool canister filters in a aquarium.

The reason i'm asking is because someone gave me the filter after their swimming got a leak and they couldn't fix it.

If I'm not mistaken it's got some kind of mesh filter. It might work for mechanical filtration.

I think it's basically suppose to circulate the water and catch the leaves. Maybe you can convert it into a canister filter with filter media.

It has some kind of mesh cartridge in.

That is what i want to do, pull out the cartridge and insert filter media, but was wondering if it would work.
Was also wondering how long these filters can run for, can i run it 24/7.

The problem with this filter is that the pump will be pumping the water at such a rate that any biological bacteria will not be able to populate any media you put in there. The other problem is that because the pump is at the bottom of the cannister, if any filter media dislodges out of the basket and falls down, it messes up the housing of the impellar.

I had one of these Intex pools and went through 4 of those canister filters beause the tree next to the pool use to drop these small seed pods that totally destroyed the impellar and housing ever so often.

The main purpose of these pumps is simply to circulate the water in the pools to prevent stagnation.

i would not recommend this be used on a tank. No.

(4 filters in a period of 10 months!) I eventually gave the pool and pump away.
