    Hi,

I want to build sliders into my 3 foot tank, what is the plastic rail called that the glass slides in? I just want to know where to look for it at builders warehouse or what to ask for.

Also, how many mm would I need to take the glass in from the overall depth of the tank for it to slide nicely in the rails and not fall out?

Hi Freerider. Go to the guys making aluminium sliding doors. usually PG glass also do aluminium. OK. For internal glass as a seperator in one tank u can use 2-3mm glass. there is no strain on these glass cos there is no presure at all. Get a 2 mm rail and 2 mm glass. silicon the rail en slide the glass

Go-big has a plan and it sounds good - I would be careful with the 2 mm stuff way to thin for me - 4mm takes a good deal of banging esp on things that you want to move around a bit or put things on - like lights etc.

Well it appears builders warehouse do not sell the aluminium "E-track" and recommended I try a woodworking outfit in Paarden Eiland, I'll check it out on the weekend but for now I just put a flat piece of glass over the tank.

Are these sliders for the top or as seperators? If its for the top i would use perspex and drill some holes in it.

Its for the top. I have a pendulum light type setup so I just want to get the top of the tank covered to minimise evaporation and the cats having a good drink out of the tanks.

I prefer glass to perspex, and at the price of pre-cut glass, one cannot really compare the 2.

You must have some air movement on the surface. The surface is where the natural oxygen exchange happens. Slides would give a pretty sealled top and that would limit the available oxygen.

I normally have about 5cm open on top so that the air can circulate. Yesterday though, I had all the covers off my tanks and the fan blowing over them. Tanks normally running at 26c where at 28c!!! This hot weather is crazy.
