Hi everyone. I am running two 3ft silvania growlux lights and one 3ft aqua glo, all 3 on my 4ft planted aquarium... How ever it gives out a pink look that i am not two fond off. can i add so other light that wil 'clear' it up a bit and give it mre of a white look. Wil this screw around with the light spectrum from my growlux lamps? thanx

Hi Schalk... check the Kelvin ratings on those globes, and contact Dolphin with this information.

I've got a 10,000k, a 6,500k and a 5,500k globes. You could change one of the globes for something with a higher spectrum in the blue range to get rid of the pink haze you getting. The pink I beleive is because one of the globes is giving off too much red.

Again, I am by no means a lighting expert, and would suggest you contact Dolphin. He helped me sort out my lighting issues when I ran into problems.

Grolux is in the 4200k range, it will be pinkish. A daylight/6500k tube will balance it out nicely

Schalk... brights are currently running a special on their VHO CFL bulbs. 65watt bulbs are going for R55.00
The kelvin rating is 6500k on these bulbs.

I bought 2 last week for my 3ft tank and wow at the difference. Will post pics soon :)

Hey Schalk, I can't comment on the 30w, but from my experience, a 15w in the blue spectrum hasn't caused any algae issues in my 2ft... I get more algae from the sun than any of my lights cause. This is just from my experience though... lets hear what the others say.

It's not the best as I only have 30w all in all (1 white and 1 blue) but it grows. Only problems I've had with plants so far is that the water is way too soft, but since I've been using the Prof. secret drupples, I'm not seeing any problems. I'm afraid that tank is now my boyfriends tank as I have taken the 3ft tank and I'm trying to get everything right in there first.

If the plants don't require a lot of light, I don't see any problems.
How many litres is your tank? Do you know the wattage of those lights you currently have?

Sorry I missed this... going through my emails and I came across this post.

The lights in my 2ft tank are both T8
The one is a grolux and the other I'm not sure of. They're both 15w and cost more than I was willing to pay (more than R100 each)

That's why I mentioned the VHO (very high output) CFL's on special at brights. The bulbs are fairly large, but you can get more light out of them than from a T8 or even T5.

I'll take pics tonight of the two setups with the all the lights on.

If you go the watt per gallon route, then 60w-90w should be good for low to medium light plants. If you can, try and get more light into your tank. It'll just help in the end for when you buy those high light plants :)

Please take a pic of your setup tonight... I'd like to see just how pink it looks :D

No probs :) Maybe only get the one blue light. It really looks lovely in the evenings on its own.

Look forward to seeing an update from you ^^,

what is the model number of this lamp? required to correctly determine the Kelvin rating...

Sylvania Grolux is a 6500K lamp, from I what I can remember - will check mine just now...
