I bought myself a tank but when we got a closer look we found one of the glasses cracked and had to replace it. We did the replacement this morning with silicon. How long do I need to leave it to dry before I can put in water? Will it be ok if I fill it with water say on Saterday? :push:

Hi stripes the silicon needs AT LEAST 24 hours to cure,48 to be sure in a dry, well ventilated place. Stick your head in the tank and see if you can smell any of the silicone, if there is even a faint smell wait another at least 12 hours then smell again. If you fill on Saturday pm should be OK.

    Hi Stripes,

Did you use marine silicon? I made a mistake a long time ago and used normal silicon. It took me hours to scape off...

hey hey. i would allow atleast a week for the silicone to dry 100%. Esp if you have a thick brace on the base of the tank that needs to dry...

Thats the one part i hate about building a big tank is the wait for the drying of the braces. the tank builders normally says 2 weeks for the bottom braces to dry

    Hi all,

Well we filled the tank up with water on saterday afternoon. He seems fine but I have noticed that I will diffinatly have to get n bigger pump for my tank. The filter I thought will be big enough is truggling to clean the tank so I am going to get a even bigger one.

    Hi Savage,

Yes, I have cleaned the sand before by running water through it and turning it with my hand. I did that until the water was clear. I will give it a few days and let you know then. I must also say that looks better this afternoon than yesterday.

what size is your tank and what size is your filter/pump? I like to circulate my water trough my filter 3 times per hour. 250L tank 750l/hour filter/ pump.
