I'm sitting here really kicking my own backside now.
I'm pretty sure, almost 100% sure my Betta has dropsy. I don't know why I didn't pick it up at the LFS and I don't know why I was in such a rush to take this specific Betta. Anyhoo, what's done is done.

Now to find out how I can possibly save this little critters life.

His abdomen is fairly large at the moment. What can I do to help him?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    *EDIT*
    See attached picture.

He doesn't seem to be lethargic and he's eating bloodworm whenever I give him some. Maybe its still early stages?

    Hi Linxie

Betta are very prone to bloat especially when fed flake foods. You can try and feed him a boiled pea, this should help. Just not to easy to get them to eat it.
Try and mash it or something, and keep food from him so he goes hungry.

    Hope its not dropsy.

Thanks Vis, I'll try that this evening then.
He doesn't seem to like the flake food all that much. He tends to ignore it when I feed the guppies and danios.

    Thanks Ace.
Not sure how the whole naming of LFS goes around here.... It was Northern Aquatics. (Oh please fish gods, please don't strike me down)

Indeed Ace. The only reason I went there was because they were the only shop willing to take my guppies.

I've come to the realisation that my Betta isn't sick. Last night when I got home he was fine, there was no bump. Then I fed him some bloodworm and after about 15min his abdomen started swelling.

I will be buying something else for him today as I can't stand to see him like that. I don't know if it hurts, or if he just over fills himself.

Glad to hear Linxie! Bettas do like to overendulge that is why I do not keep mine in a community tank.
They LOVE bloodworm but it is not very good for them even if good quality worms.
It is still a good idea to feed him a boiled pea once in a while and maybe starve him for 2 days or so. It just clean there digestive tracks.
Consider bloodworms like tjoklate for them and not food, if life could be that much fun.

    Thanks Vis! That helps alot.
I looked for peas last night, but it seems we're fresh out. Will buy a packet this evening. Until I get my new tank from Big G, I'm afraid he's going to have to stay in the community tank. Thereafter he'll have a lovely tank all to himself (with maybe a few fish who don't share his diet, we'll see though)

Or try a dark shimmering blue female. Difficult to find crown tale females.
Linxie a community tank is not a problem, just try and keep him away from the food when he had his fill.
They can get quite chubby so some excersize is good 2. I ussually put a little mirror where he can see it and give him a 10m spar with his reflexion.
